Title: God is a record Keeper
Text: Revelation 20:12-13
“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The seas gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them and each person was judged according to what he had done.
Record keeping is a process of documenting for future references our activities to aid decision making. This is one of the attributes of God, inherited by human being. God is a record keeper! Our text today, talked about the documentation of the works of the people either good or bad. Anyone that his/her name is not found in the book of life shall be cast into the lake of fire. Bible also said in the book of 1 Corinthians 3:13-14 “that all our works shall be tested with fire”. That means that all we have done on this planet earth shall be tested. The question then is that, how would the work be known? This shall be from the records of what we have done in this world as documented in either the book of life or the other books.
Note from our text, the word: each person! Meaning each of us will stand before God.
In the book of Nehemiah 3, the works of every person was carefully recorded during the rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem. The works of the High Priests, Priest, Businessmen (e.g. manufacturer of perfume, gold dealer in vs 8, etc), Mayors in vs9 & 19, church attendants in vs 26, gate keepers, father, sons, daughters, Jews and non -Jews. Those who did nothing (neutral people) were also not left out, as it was boldly recorded in vs 5 that the men of Tekoa were lazy and did nothing.
Dear readers, as we can see, all men’s works were noted both the rich and the poor; the Priest and Laities, believers and unbelievers. Therefore, if we want to be filled with joy and rejoicing when there shall be opportunity for us to read the performance reports of our activities, let us meticulously follow the advice of Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
. Oh Lord God of mercy, please use your mercy to clean off every stain in our records.
· Please grant unto us all the help that our lives require for our names to be written and maintained in the book of life.
· I pray that those who are yet to give their lives to Christ will have personal encounters with Christ Jesus like Saul of tarsus and surrender their lives to Him and have their names written in the book of life.
. I pray that You and I shall not be ashamed at the appearing of JESUS. In JESUS’ name I pray. Amen.
