Christians are followers of Christ. They were those that have accepted Jesus as their Lord and master. They have decided that: “to die is gain and to live is for Christ”. These people were first called Christians in the city of Antioch, when people of the city noticed characters in them similar to that of Christ, when He was alive.
The name Christian comes from two words; Christ and likeness. Likeness is being an image, product of reproduction by birth (a new birth)! They are those that were born again!!
After the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, His disciple desired him to continue to be with them without ascending to heaven contrary to what was written. Jesus knowing their emptiness and the persecution ahead of them in His absence, decided to ask His father for Holy Spirit, another comforter, to live in them, as many that conditioned their lives to follow Him. The Bible says in John 14:16-17 that: “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter that he may abide with you forever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you”
The proof of Christianity is the existence of the fruits of the Spirit. The Bible says in 1 John 4:7-8: “7Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” The fruit of the spirit are enumerated by Apostle Paul in his epistle to the church in Galatia: “… love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance” The more these fruits abound in our lives, the easier for us to have a vibrant Christian living. Let us examine ourselves daily and ask the Lord to multiply these fruits of the Spirit abundantly in our lives. For the next few weeks, we shall examine each of the fruits in more detail.
Our father and our God, we thank you for today. Help us to examine our lives daily and protect us from the attack of virus of life that easily destroys the flowers that produces fruits of the spirit in us in Jesus Name, Amen.
