1I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Longsuffering is forbearance or patience – ability to accept delay, annoyance or suffering without complain or murmur. This is an attribute of God’s nature. God’s longsuffering is intended to bring people to repentance because He has no delight in the death of a sinner but repentance. The bible says in 2 Peter 3:9 that “ 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”
Longsuffering is absolute important in the life of a child of God. God is God and not a man. Whatever He says He will do, but at His own time and season. To work with the Lord in the light of His word and receive the glory He has set out, we need to be able to forbear – longsuffering. Two cannot work together unless they agreed. We cannot work with God unless we keyed-in into His operational principle. If we lack patience, then we need to examine our Christian race and go to God in prayer to help our lives. The word of God is a mirror, when we stand before it; it will show us how we are and how we ought to be. The difference between the two should call for action. However, because on our own we can do nothing, then we need to go to God in prayer to help our spiritual infirmity!
The bible says in 1Timothy 1:15-17 that “15This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16However for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.” If indeed Christ is our Lord and master we ought to show forth ALL LONGSUFFERING!!
Lord Jesus, please help us to show forth all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on you for everlasting life in Jesus Name, Amen.
